The mounting flange can be rotated to several positions allowing you to move the starter's solenoid out of the way of any chassis braces that might be in the way.

If you're uncertain if you're bus transmission has a 002 or a 091 bell housing measure the depth from where the starter bolts on to the transmission down to the starter bushing. If the distance from where the starter mounts on to the transmission to the starter bushing is 2 inches then you need to use the 002 / beetle / Mendeola style starter. If the distance from where the starter mounts on to the transmission to the starter bushing is 2.5 inches then you need to use the bus 091 style starter. It is VERY common for transmission builders to put the bus 002 style bell housing on a 091 transmission because the starter is cheaper in cost. So make sure you measure your transmission BEFORE you order the starter.
