This is the base plate that fits the blue and black hood crest. It fits April 1951 to 1963 Beetles through chassis number 5010447. When you install the hood emblem on your beetle, you put the two vertical tabs on the hood emblem through the mounting plate then through the two vertical slots in the hood. Inside the hood you fold over the two tabs on the hood emblem to secure the emblem to the hood. The circular hole in the center of the mounting plate is not used.
