This switch works as a ground (-). If your engine is not running or oil pressure is low, this switch grounds the oil pressure indicator warning light, and then the light turns on to tell you there's a problem. If the engine is running and there is sufficient oil pressure then the dash light is not grounded (-) and the light stays off. If you put too much Teflon tape on the threads of the switch, the switch will not create a sufficient enough ground to turn the light on.
